Exploration and Production
In 2007 Exploration and Production (E&P) achieved record production, sales and revenues and increased reserves by over 40%. With a focus on growth in the future, our top strategic priority is to increase our organisational capability. In addition to planning to significantly increase our employee numbers from more than 400 E&P professionals ahead of projected business growth, we are also investing in our systems and office environment for the future.
Already operating one of the largest portfolios of onshore oil and gas production facilities in Australia and New Zealand, we're also involved in an impressive range of major off shore developments. In fact, in the past year we've drilled or participated in 189 exploration, appraisal and development wells across our interests, and in all 163 have been identified for future production or evaluation.
Our facilities span the region, from Perth in Western Australia to Bowen in Queensland, and from Taranaki to Canterbury Basins in New Zealand. Moreover, we're also Australia's leading developer of coalseam gas. In fact, we have over 70% of our proven and probable reserves in this abundant and reliable source of gas for eastern Australian markets, which is set to grow further.
With an eye to the future, building on our subsurfance expertise, we are also a venture partner in leading geothermal appraisal activity, as well as a number of carbon capture and storage research and development projects in Australia.
